Democratic strategist James Carville on Wednesday lost his temper as he explained why he believes Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reportedly did not inform President Donald Trump about his country’s massive Sunday drone attack against Russian air bases.
Former White House adviser Steve Bannon on Monday denounced Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham for going to Ukraine ahead of the attack and said the country should have told Trump about it, Mediaite reported. Carville, on “Politics War Room,” defended Zelenskyy for reportedly not telling Trump, arguing the U.S. president would have passed along the information to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

“I want to do a puzzle for our listeners, viewers, okay? Now listen very carefully to this puzzle and see if you can get the answer … I’ll give you one-tenth of a second to think of the answer,” Carville said. “So Steve Bannon criticized Lindsey Graham for going to Ukraine because no one — Zelensky, I don’t know if they told Lindsey or not — didn’t tell Trump about the plan. Why do you think Zelensky didn’t tell Trump about the plan? All right, your microsecond is up, because he didn’t want to tell Putin. And if you tell Trump, you’re telling Putin. That’s why, you dumb son of a bitch.”
“You think they’re going to tell Trump that they have an equivalent of Pearl Harbor? This is how fucking stupid people are. I mean, I don’t know why people didn’t jump on that. Maybe I missed it, the late-night people —Jesus Christ!” he continued. “Look, ‘He didn’t tell Trump they had this drone strike coming,’ and right when Trump was saying, ‘You have no cards,’ this guy was sitting there saying, ‘Uh, you think I don’t have any cards? Wait till you see me deal off the bottom of the deck, and you’ll start seeing aces flying everywhere.’”
Ukraine sent a massive swarm of drones to attack crucial airbases and nuclear bombing assets deep in Russian territory, striking targets as deep as the furthest reaches of Siberia, according to multiple reports. Sources told CBS News and Axios that the White House did not know Ukraine was going to launch the attacks.
Ukraine asserts it struck 40 bombers, comprising nearly a third of Russia’s strategic bombing fleet, The Associated Press reported Tuesday. The drones were secretly sent into Russia via covert containers over the span of several months and were activated within Russian territory to fly to their targets.
Russia will retaliate in response to the attack, Putin told Trump in a Wednesday phone call.
Trump told Zelenskyy he didn’t “have the cards” in his war against Russia during a February White House clash.
