Accused cop killer also shot a father of two girls in the back

BALDWIN PARK, CA – A 22-year-old man is facing murder charges in connection with a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of a police officer and a civilian in Baldwin Park. Eduardo Medina Berumen has been charged with five counts, including first-degree murder with special circumstances, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s office.

The charges stem from a tragic incident involving the death of Baldwin Park police officer Samuel Riveros. District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that Berumen could potentially face the death penalty. The announcement coincides with the release of the identity of the other victim, 43-year-old Darius Wong, a father of two young daughters.

Newly surfaced video footage reveals that Wong was on his way to a friend’s housewarming party on Hillhurst Avenue when he was fatally shot. The footage shows Wong’s final moments, walking along the sidewalk before being gunned down. The responding officers encountered immediate gunfire, resulting in Officer Riveros also being killed.

Victor Wong, the brother of the civilian victim, expressed his grief and anger, describing the accused shooter as ‘a devil.’ He believes the violence was sparked by an argument over a parking spot involving other guests at the party. Wong had just dropped off his family and was walking to the gathering when the shots were fired.
