Louisiana State Police (LSP) said they caught 19-year-old Corey Boyd. Boyd is the fifth of ten Orleans Parish Correctional Facility inmates to have been recaptured since their jailbreak on Friday, May 16.
LSP said in a Tuesday evening Facebook post that Boyd was caught in New Orleans. He was in prison on charges of second-degree murder, attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery and threatening a public official. Police said Boyd will be rebooked and jailed at a “secure state facility outside of the area.” Boyd now faces a new charge of “simple escape” and potentially others, according to LSP.
Boyd was initially arrested earlier in May 2025 after he and two other suspects killed a witness to their attempt at breaking into a car. According to Nola.com, Boyd was behind the wheel of another vehicle and ran over the witness who confronted the suspected car thieves.
The escape
The 10 escaped inmates were identified as Corey Boyd, Dkenan Dennis, Jermaine Donald, Derrick Groves, Antoine Massey, Robert Moody, Kendell Myles, Gary Price, Leo Tate and Lenton Vanburen.
Photos released by the sheriff’s office show a hole was dug out of a wall behind a toilet, the likely exit route for the inmates. Messages written on the wall included “We innocent,” “To (sic) easy lol,” and “Catch us when you can.” Deputies suspected the inmates dug the hole and escaped through the wall.
The arrest came on the same day authorities arrested a jail maintenance worker for allegedly aiding the escape. Officials with the Orleans Parish Justice Center also placed three employees with the Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Department on administrative leave pending the investigation into the escape.
“It’s almost impossible for anybody to get out of this facility without help,” Orleans Parish Sheriff Susan Hutson said.
With five inmates still at large, LSP advised anyone who thinks they might have identified an escapee not to approach them, as they are considered armed and dangerous.
