Bill Gates once again accused Tesla CEO Elon Musk of “killing the world’s poorest children” by cutting funding to USAID, which is overseen by the Department of Government Efficiency.
Gates told the Financial Times on Thursday that cuts to a hospital in Mozambique’s Gaza Province have hampered efforts to prevent mothers from spreading HIV to their newborns. “The picture of the world’s richest man killing the world’s poorest children is not a pretty one,” Gates added. “I’d love for him to go in and meet the children that have been infected with HIV because he cut that money.”

Gates’s statement on Musk is the latest in their prolonged feud.
Musk said Gates approached him to “discuss philanthropy possibilities,” but Musk declined due to Gates’ $500 million short position on Tesla stock, which Gates said he has not closed. “Sorry, but I cannot take your philanthropy on climate change seriously when you have a massive short position against Tesla, the company doing the most to solve climate change,” Musk texted Gates.
Gates also criticized Musk’s finances after Tesla invested $1.5 billion in Bitcoin. Gates told Bloomberg, “Elon has tons of money and he’s very sophisticated, so I don’t worry that his Bitcoin will sort of randomly go up or down.” He advised individual investors, “If you have less money than Elon, you should probably watch out.”
Musk insulted Gates on X in 2022 by tweeting a pregnant man emoji image.
Gates’ comments about Musk coincide with his announcement that the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation will invest $200 billion in the next 20 years to promote its public health mission and close in 2045.
“In our first 25 years, fueled partly by Warren Buffett’s generosity, the Gates Foundation distributed over $100 billion,” Gates said. “We aim to double that impact in the next two decades.”
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation was founded in 2000, the year Bill Gates left Microsoft as CEO. Melinda French Gates left the charity in 2024, three years after their divorce.
