MS. JEAN-PIERRE: So, obviously, our hearts go out to the families there. It’s a devastating, devastating news story.
The President obviously is—just like everyone else is paying close attention and saw those reports. I don’t have anything else to add.
Obviously, the investigation continues, and we are willing to assist in any way. I just don’t have anything else beyond that.
Q: What is his level of concern right now about the potential rise of antisemitism in light of everything that’s going on in Israel?
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: So, a couple of things. Look, we have not seen any credible threats. I know there’s always been a question about credible threats. And so, I just want to make sure that’s out there.
But, look, Muslims and those perceived to be Muslims have endured a disproportionate number of hate-fueled attacks. And certainly President Biden understands that many of our Muslim, Arab, and Palestinian American loved ones and neighbors are worried about the hate being directed at their communities. And that is something you heard the President speak to in his address just last Thursday.
And so, one of the things that the President has done is directed his team—the Homeland Security team—to prioritize the prevention and disruption of any emerging threats that could harm the Jewish, Muslim, Arab Americans, or any other communities. And that is something that the President has sought to do since day one.
As you know, the President ran on—on — on, you know, bringing communities together— protecting communities, obviously, but bringing people together—protecting the soul of the nation. And so that is something that the President takes very seriously.
And we—you know, we’re going to continue to denounce any sort of hate towards any American here. And so, that’s what we’re going to continue to be steadfast on. Again, he has advised and directed his Homeland Security team to make sure that they’re on top of this.

Q Are there specific deliverables you’re hoping to get out of the Australian meeting this week, or is it more of a consultation?
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: So, we’ll have more on the agenda for the meeting. I certainly don’t want to get ahead of the deliverables that will come out on Wednesday. But certainly, we’ll have more to share.
And obviously, we tend to have these background calls that the NSC leads. And so, we’ll have some more in-depth discussion on the priorities, the agenda, and what we’re looking to do.

Q Thank you. I know John Kirby addressed the protests on college campuses, and I appreciate that the President respects First Amendment rights to protest, but does the President view anti-Israel protests and sentiment on college campuses as antisemitism?
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: So, look, I’m not going to get into what’s happening across the country at different universities. I’m not going to get into the specifics.
As the Admiral said, the First Amendment right—right?—that’s what something—a peaceful protest is really part of—part of our democracy, being able for folks to be able to express their feelings.
I’m not going to get into any, you know, specifics on that. The President has been very clear in wanting to make sure that Jewish Americans, Arab Americans, and Muslims are protected here. That is what he believes in—that we have the right to live our lives, to feel protection, and to feel like they’re able to be part of a community. The president has been very, very clear about denouncing any type of violence.
And so, as it relates to peaceful protesting, people have the right to do that. But we’re just not going to get into blow-by-blows of what’s going on across the country.

MS. JEAN-PIERRE: Of course, the President doesn’t—is against antisemitism. Of course. This is a president that you have heard me say is parti-—wants to protect communities, whether it’s the Jewish community, the Arab American pre-community, or the Palestinian community. This is someone who is going to speak out against antisemitism. Of course.
But you’re asking me—you’re— you were kind of conflating the two. You were asking me about pro-protests, and you were asking me about this question.
Q: I think if you talk to a lot of the protesters, you’ll hear antisemitism.
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: I hear you.

Israel of genocide.
MS. Jean-Pierre: We’re always going to denounce antisemitism. But at the same time, people have the right to peacefully protest.
But we, in this administration, are going to always denounce antisemitism and any form of hate. Whether it’s against the Jewish community—right?—antisemitism, against the Muslim community, the Arab American community, or the Palestin—we are going to denounce any form of hate that comes towards those communities.
As it relates to protests—peaceful protests—people have the right to do that. But this is an administration, obviously, that’s going to be very forceful and very clear about denouncing antisemitism.

Is there anything in particular that the administration is planning to do to take this argument to those college students or the younger generations who seem to be open to the idea that there are two sides to this thing?
MS. JEAN-PIERRE: I don’t have anything to lay out for any specific conversations or outreach that the President is going to do with students.
As you know, we have an Office of Public Engagement here. We have other offices here at the White House that are constantly engaging with communities, including the young community. I just don’t have anything specific to your question on the president’s schedule to do that.

It’s going to be a lot more illegal immigrants coming across the border now that the Biden administration is going to drop the measure on May 23.
In a statement that came soon after the governor’s press conference, Abbott’s office said only those who want to go will be transported, and they must show proof that they have been checked out by the Department of Homeland Security.

Insurance companies are reporting a jump in death payouts due to a dramatic rise in the number of deaths. The rise in the death rate is being corroborated by death certificate data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
The death rate is up by 40 percent from pre-pandemic levels according to Scott Davison, chief executive of OneAmerica, a major insurance company based in Indianapolis. During an online news conference on Dec. 30, 2021, Davison said the change was unprecedented.
“We are seeing, right now, the highest death rates we have seen in the history of this business,” he said.
OneAmerica sells life insurance to employers nationwide, and similar figures are found throughout the industry.
“The data is consistent across every player in that business,” Davison said. “And what we saw just in the third quarter—we’re seeing it continue into the fourth quarter—is that death rates are up 40 percent over what they were pre-pandemic. Just to give you an idea of how bad that is, a three-sigma or a one-in-200-year catastrophe would be a 10 percent increase over pre-pandemic. So 40 percent is just unheard of.”
This 40 percent figure doesn’t represent folks dying of old age, but is instead a reflection of deaths in working-age adults, aged 18 to 65. However, what’s responsible for the alarming spike in fatalities in this age group isn’t clear.
With all of the concern about COVID-19 lately, the contagion seems a likely choice. But according to Davison, something else is at play. He said the data coming from insurance companies—entities in the business of paying out when people die—show that the deaths being reported as COVID-19 fatalities “greatly understate” the actual deaths from working age people hit by the pandemic, as most of the claims being filed aren’t being classified as COVID-19 deaths.
“It may not all be COVID on their death certificate, but deaths are up just huge, huge numbers,” he said.
Also taking part in the news conference was Brian Tabor, president of the Indiana Hospital Association. He also noted a dramatic rise in illness from a different perspective. Tabor said hospitals across Indiana were being flooded with patients “with many different conditions.”
In October 2021, The Times of India reported that health insurers saw a “huge surge in non-COVID claims,” with the head of interventional cardiology at a Mumbai, India, hospital noting a 40 percent increase in heart problems compared to the previous six to eight months.
Ever since COVID-19 hit, the world has been bracing itself for huge numbers. Most recently in a White House press briefing on Dec. 17, 2021, President Joe Biden warned that unvaccinated Americans can look forward to a “winter of severe illness and death for yourselves, your families, and the hospitals you may soon overwhelm.”
Still, such astronomical figures emerging all of a sudden are hard to fathom. The pandemic has worn on for nearly two years, and health officials have been keeping a close eye on the death count. What could account for such a dramatic jump at the end of 2021?

Americans have been dying at a significantly higher rate over the past two years or so, but the COVID-19 disease tells only part of the story. Among seniors, the pandemic could explain the increase in mortality more easily than among younger people, where there’s a gap requiring further explanation.
Overall, there appear to be three distinct patterns in the data based on age:
Among those of age 0 to 17, mortality remained virtually unchanged since 2019.
Among those who were 65 or older, mortality increased in 2020, dropped in the first half of 2021, coinciding with the proliferation of the COVID-19 vaccines, and then increased in the third quarter of 2021, coinciding with the emergence of the Delta variant, which appeared more resistant to the vaccines.
