(NewsNation) — President Donald Trump commemorated his 100th day in office on Tuesday, using a Michigan rally to highlight the accomplishments of the opening stretch of his second White House term.
Amid a flood of executive orders and other actions, Trump has sparked a trade war with tariffs. But despite fears among Americans about what effect Trump’s reciprocal tariffs could have on the American economy, Peter Navarro, the president’s senior adviser on trade and manufacturing, claims the anxiety will disappear once the first deal is struck.
“We have virtually every nation in the world coming to us to negotiate less cheating,” Navarro told NewsNation on Tuesday. “And it’s a beautiful thing in the world to watch.”
Navarro predicted that despite fears over the tariffs that the Trump adviser said are being driven by the media, Trump could strike a deal with a nation where tariffs have been proposed within a matter of weeks.
“Usually, a deal takes a long time – 18 months, two years,” Navarro said. “But we’re going to do this in Trump time, which is to say, real time.”
Navarro predicted that the first deal could be reached with the United Kingdom, India or South Korea.
Once the first tariff negotiation is completed, the adviser predicted, everything else will fall in line.
“As soon as we begin to what will be a see a march of deals, people will begin to understand that the strategy that Trump has adopted is perfectly correct that the world needs to stop screwing us,” Navarro said.
