President Donald Trump on Friday night called for Russian and Ukrainian officials to meet and finish their peace deal that would end the years-long war in Ukraine, stating it was time to “stop the bloodshed.”
The comment was made on social media as the president landed in Rome for the late Pope Francis’ funeral. U.S. special envoy Steve Witkoff spent most of Friday working with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow to further peace talks between the two countries, which the United States is helping to orchestrate.
Trump said the U.S. was still committed to helping “facilitate” the end of the war, but encouraged the leaders of both countries to “finish” the agreement off.
