White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said Wednesday that President Biden is “moving forward” with his presidential campaign amid the fallout from his debate performance against GOP challenger Donald Trump.
“Anything else that’s being reported is absolutely false,” she said at a White House press briefing.
When asked to respond to a report that Biden is reevaluating the presidential race after the first debate, Jean-Pierre said it’s “absolutely false.”
She added that Biden directly told her the reporting was false.
Jean-Pierre acknowledged that the coming days are critical for Biden but not solely because of the debate.
“This moment is critical regardless of the debate or not. We are living in an important moment right now. Everything is at stake,” she said. “Any leader would say they always have to prove themselves to their constituents, right? It is day in and day out work.”
The White House maintained that it won’t release Biden’s full medical exam results from February, which Jean-Pierre confirmed was his last exam.
“What we have released over the last 3 years every year since he’s been in office has been transparent and it has been comprehensive,” she said.
Jean-Pierre was asked if there is a “morale issue” in the White House since the debate.
In response, she said it’s a “fair question.”
She confirmed that Jeff Zients, White House chief of staff, held a staff-wide call and explained his door is always open to any staff member.
“He conveyed the importance of executing on our mission. He talked about the importance of coming together as a team and also having each other’s backs,” she said.
