Nevada officials have certified a proposed amendment to enshrine abortion in the state’s constitution, slated to appear on the November ballot.
According to NBC News, pro-abortion organization Nevadans for Reproductive Freedom announced in May that it had gathered over 200,000 signatures from registered voters — exceeding the 103,000 required to advance the proposal for ballot qualification.
On June 28, the Nevada Secretary of State’s office confirmed the verification of these signatures, affirming that all criteria had been fulfilled for the amendment to be included on the November ballot.

In Nevada, abortion is currently legal up to the 24th week of pregnancy.
The proposed amendment seeks to embed language that would legalize abortion until “fetal viability,” meaning the moment in which theoretically the unborn baby can survive outside the mother’s womb.
Under state law, even if the measure passes in November, voters would need to approve it again in 2026 before formally amending the Nevada constitution.
Nevada is now one of six states presenting the future of abortion expansion directly to voters in the 2024 election, alongside Florida, Maryland, New York, South Dakota, and Colorado.
