CV NEWS FEED // Pope Francis has officially determined that Blessed Carlo Acutis and 14 other people will be canonized as saints. While the other 14 people will share a canonization ceremony on the same date, Blessed Carlo Acutis will be canonized on a separate date, likely to celebrate the first Millennial saint in a special ceremony.Â
Vatican News reported that Pope Francis and the Consistory of Cardinals voted this week approving the canonization of Acutis and 14 others, including 11 who were martyred in Ottoman Syria in the 17th century.Â
The 14 people will be inscribed in the List of Saints on October 20, while Acutis will be proclaimed a saint likely in 2025, according to Vatican News. The date of Acutis’ canonization has not yet been announced.Â
Acutis’ canonization ceremony will have special significance, as he will be the first Millennial – or person born between the years of 1981 and 1996 – to be canonized a saint.Â
Acutis was born in 1991 in England, and died from leukemia in Italy at the young age of 15. Acutis enjoyed playing video games, and loved going to daily Mass. A talented coder and computer programmer, he designed a virtual exhibit website dedicated to Eucharistic miracles from around the world. Pope Francis declared him a Blessed in 2020.Â
As CatholicVote previously reported in late May, Pope Francis approved the second miracle attributed to Acutis’ intercession, paving the way for him to be proclaimed a saint.Â
