(RestoreAmericanGlory.com) – On Sunday, six climate protesters stormed the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship 18th green causing a delay in the finish of the tournament by around five minutes.
The protesters had used white and red powder to stain the grass right before Akshay Bhatia, Tom Kim and Scottie Scheffler finished their rounds. One of the protesters had reportedly been wearing a white T-shirt in which the phrase “NO GOLF ON A DEAD PLANET” was printed in black letters on the front.
Bhatia revealed in a statement that he was “scared” for his life. He added that he did not know exactly what was happening, but the police officers present had helped keep them safe. Still, he stated that this is “weird stuff.”
The protesters were tackled and then taken off the grass. Following the protest, Kim managed to tie with a 10-foot birdie putt which resulted in the tournament heading to a sudden-death playoff. Kim claimed that the protest had distracted him from the pressure. He added that in a way it had “slowed things down” and had taken his mind away from golf, which had been all he had been thinking about for the last 17 and a half holes. He noted that in a way it didn’t even feel like playing golf and that for a second it had felt like a dream.
Following the protest, workers had come out with leaf blowers in order to clean off the remaining powder. The location of the hole was also changed for the payoff.
Kim pointed out that the protesters had left marks on the grass which is not right for the players.
