Amidst the aftermath of the tragic murder of 12-year-old Jocelyn Nungaray, a Harris County judge has casted blame despite her own request to not “politicize” the young girl’s death.
Judge Lina Hidalgo accused Trump and Congressional Republicans of contributing towards Nungaray’s death because they pulled out of an agreement proposed by Biden earlier this year.
“When the former President decided that he didn’t want Biden to have a lid on immigration, he told his party to pull out of that agreement,” she said.
“So, blaming things on the current immigration policy is absolutely political, and it really breaks my heart that people would politicize the sadness of that tragedy.”
Hidalgo even stressed that “evil happens regardless of immigration status.”
She then implored others not to use Nungaray’s death as a pretext for pushing stricter immigration laws.
A Fox 26 reporter immediately called out Hidalgo for her blatant contradiction.
“All due respect, judge, you said this issue shouldn’t be politicized but by pointing the finger at former president Trump and Republicans in Congress, aren’t you politicizing it?” he asked.
Hidalgo responded, “I think I answered the question.”
“Again, the Biden administration reached an agreement with leader McConnell to address this. This is not about immigration. I’m not going to feed into that,” she added.
Fox 26 also spoke to Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey, who claimed Harris County has become an attractive spot for illegal immigrants.
The outlet questioned Ramsey on whether current policies have turned the county into a “sanctuary county.”
Ramsey answered, “Based on those policies, based upon our unwillingness to engage, I believe it is.”
“I think people know that they cross that border with ill-intent, that cross that border, and are coming here to do bad things,” he continued.
“They know that they can come to Houston, Texas, the third largest county in America, and they can do really bad things, and not get caught, and nothing will happen.”
“… I think your term is correct, it’s a ‘sanctuary county’ and we’ve got to turn that around,” he concluded.
Nungaray was allegedly murdered by two illegal immigrants from Venezuela, both of whom were recently caught by Border Patrol but eventually let into the US.
Johan Jose Martinez-Rangel, 21, and Franklin Jose Peña Ramos, 26, are accused of luring the preteen under a bridge, tying her up, removing her pants and strangling her to death before dumping her body in a bayou.
Both men now face capital murder charges and could be sentenced to the death penalty, Resist the Mainstream previously reported.
On Monday Pena Ramos’ bond was set at $10 million.
On Tuesday it was revealed Rangel Martine had scratch and bite marks on his body after allegedly assaulting Nungaray for two hours before killing her.
A judge also put a $10 million bail for Rangel Martinez in place, adding that he is a likely flight risk.
Rangel Martinez was reportedly given an ankle monitor after he was caught crossing into the US illegally.
Authorities, however, removed it roughly two months later after they decided he had no “known criminal history.”
District Attorney Kim Ogg stated during a press conference on Monday: “Our immigration system is broken and if there was ever a case that reflected that, it’s this one.”
