MILWAUKEE, WI – In a tragic incident early Tuesday morning, LaShanda Shumpert, a 47-year-old Milwaukee woman, was fatally shot at the doorstep of her home. The Milwaukee Police Department reported the incident occurred just before 3:30 a.m. near 42nd Street and Florist Avenue, close to Havenwoods State Forest.
The victim was identified by her devastated family, who are struggling to comprehend the senseless violence. Shumpert’s mother, Maeleen Dilworth-Jordan, relayed that her granddaughter called in the early hours, deeply distressed, informing her that someone had shot her mother.
According to the family, Shumpert was conversing with her daughter on the phone and had opened the door to an unknown individual, leading to the fatal shooting.
Dilworth-Jordan expressed her bewilderment over the motive behind the attack, emphasizing her daughter’s nature as a non-confrontational person dedicated to her family.
At the time of the shooting, some of Shumpert’s children and grandchildren were present in the home, adding to the family’s trauma. Milwaukee police have initiated an extensive investigation, canvassing the scene for evidence and witnesses. Authorities are currently searching for the shooter responsible for this heinous crime.
