The United Nations is a joke of an organization, at best. It’s unclear what exactly they have accomplished but countries keep forking over funds as if they have benefited the world in the slightest bit.
Any group that puts Iran on a board about human rights is probably not concerned much with the rights of humans. This is why it’s no surprise that they will be banning Afghan women from attending an upcoming meeting regarding human rights with the Taliban. And now that they have allowed the Taliban to weigh in on the rights of women, I think there is more than enough justification to disband the organization immediately.
According to AP News:
U.N. special envoy Roza Otunbayeva was pummeled with questions Friday from journalists about criticism from human rights organizations at the omission of Afghan women from the meeting in Qatar’s capital, Doha, on June 30 and July 1.
The Taliban have used their interpretation of Islamic law to bar girls from education beyond age 11, ban women from public spaces, exclude them from many jobs, and enforce dress codes and male guardianship requirements.
So how many meetings will it take before women are allowed to roam public places freely?
I am hoping this isn’t a way for them to pretend they are making an impact on women’s rights, especially because I doubt the Taliban is concerned with uniting nations…
In 2023, the UN published a report “detailing extensive human rights abuses against women and girls in the U.S.” I am just curious if they also plan on creating a new report regarding Afghanistan.
This is how much of a joke this organization is and there is no evidence that I have seen to suggest they do much of anything to make the world a better place. For the amount of money the UN has received, they could have ended world hunger and pretended to fix climate change but it seems as if things have only gotten worse the more money they get.
Out of all the most effective ways to fix this issue in Afghanistan, having the Taliban meet with UN officials does not even come close to making the list. But as the UN pretends to care, while they point the finger at the US for fake human rights abuses, women in Afghanistan are actually suffering.
Can anyone name a country where the UN has successfully championed women’s rights? No? Didn’t think so.
