Tamayo Perry, who played the role of a pirate in the film Pirates of the Caribbean, passed away after being attacked by a shark while surfing in Hawaii, as the BBC reported.
During a press conference, the emergency services of Honolulu revealed that the actor, who was 49 years old, passed away on Sunday afternoon. Around 1pm , emergency services were dispatched to Malaekahana Beach in response to the incident.
Perry was also a lifeguard, was pronounced dead by paramedics after he was taken to shore by jet ski.
Professional Career
In the fourth installment of the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, On Stranger Tides, Perry played one of the Buccaneers.
Penelope Cruz and Geoffrey Rush also appear in the 2011 film, which follows Johnny Depp in the role of the eccentric pirate Captain Jack Sparrow.
Perry also appeared in a Coca-Cola advertisement and had roles in the sequel to Charlie’s Angels, Full Throttle, Blue Crush, and Lost. Perry, who was born on the eastern side of Oahu, had been professionally surfing for more than a decade.

Perry was described as “a lifeguard loved by all” by the acting chief of Honolulu Ocean Safety, Kurt Lager.
Lager also mentioned that Perry was well-known not only on the north shore of Oahu but also all over the world: “Tamayo’s personality was infectious, and as much as people loved him, he loved everyone else more.
He added his heartfelt sentiment to the family of the recently deceased actor, saying, “Our condolences go out to Tamayo’s family.”
A ‘Tragic Loss’
Perry’s passing was described as “a tragic loss” by Mayor Rick Blangiardi, who agreed with Lager’s sentiments.
Addressing reporters at a news conference following the announcement, he said: “Tamayo was a legendary waterman and highly respected, [he] grew up right over here, and just a great member of our ocean safety team.”
He stated that it was “hard to imagine” something like that happening, referencing receiving the call on Sunday afternoon.
He also asked that Perry’s family be given the opportunity to grieve in private.
