CV NEWS FEED// On the second anniversary of the Dobbs Supreme Court case, U.S. Senator Cindy Hyde-Smith (R-Miss.) issued a statement emphasizing the need to continue fighting for life.
Senator Hyde-Smith is the chair of the Senate Pro-Life Caucus, and she stated that the caucus’s push to pass pro-life legislation shows the “comprehensive approach” to the pro-life movement that she holds, “supporting pregnancy centers, ensuring the most basic protections for our pre-born babies, and empowering couples who are trying to build their families.”
She reminded pro-life Americans that “the Dobbs victory comes with a responsibility to continue to fight for life and to hold pro-abortion administrations, like the current one, accountable for unlawful actions.”
Though Senator Hyde-Smith does support IVF, she blocked a Democratic pro-IVF bill that would have created a “right” to IVF and surrogacy, as CatholicVote reported. Her recent RESTORE act would have expanded access to restorative medicine for couples struggling with infertility (as compared to IVF, which does not address the underlying issues causing infertility); however, it was blocked by pro-choice Democrats.
Hyde-Smith has blocked other legislation that opposes the right to life and religious freedom, like the Right to Contraception Act, which CatholicVote also reported. The Act would have threatened religious liberty by punishing pro-life organizations, and forced “religious institutions and schools, even public elementary schools, to offer contraception like condoms to little kids.”
