CV NEWSFEED // Zingers, podiums, and a coin toss, on June 24 LOOPcast hosts Erika Ahern, Tom Pogasic, and CatholicVote Vice-President Josh Mercer went live to discuss the upcoming presidential debate.
“This is the first debate we have had between a sitting president and a former president.” Pogasic started.
“He’s definitely going to be a sitting president because he can’t stand that long,” Mercer quipped.
The debate is scheduled for Thursday, June 27th, and will air at 9 PM Eastern Standard Time on CNN.
LOOPcast will be hosting a live watch party on its YouTube channel featuring Mercer and special guest Tom McClusky.
“So you might remember about a month ago Biden made a statement ‘I will debate you at any time, anywhere,’ turns out under some very specific parameters,” Ahern began. “So we have rules, and people are debating whether these favor Biden or Trump, but I think it’s pretty clear.”
Ahern covered the coin toss won by Biden to determine who could have the last word in the debate or chose their podium.
Biden chose to have his podium on the right side of the stage.
“I feel like this is a mistake, why would you not want to go last?” Mercer laughed. “You want to go last, whatever that guy said, you want to be able to have the last word, have the last chance to respond to it! I cannot believe having received the coinflip in their favor, the Biden camp didn’t want to go last.”
Ahern also noted: “The microphones will be muted, except when it is that candidate’s turn to speak. There will be no studio audience, which I think is in Biden’s favor because Trump really feeds off of live audiences.”
“Donald Trump knows how to tell a good joke, Biden does not.” Mercer agreed.

The LOOPCast hosts also revisited the last presidential debate between Biden and Trump from 2020.
Pogasic discussed the mayhem of the last presidential debate. “I think one of the biggest problems with the debate that Erika talked about, was how it quickly descended into name-calling.”
“It was a food fight.” Mercer joked.
The LOOPCast hosts then switched gears to discuss the topics of the debate.
“What do you want to hear talked about?” Pogasic posed.
“I think for Trump to win he has to focus on the top two issues for voters, which would be immigration and the economy,” answered Ahern. “Again that is where we have that unique, really unique, historical side-by-side comparison that Trump just wins on every metric.”
“I would hope that the Biden campaign would continue to talk about ‘defending democracy,’” Mercer joined. “It’s so bologna, that you’re trying to convince the American people that you have to vote for Joe Biden otherwise you won’t be able to vote in elections anymore?”
“Biden is the one who tried to put his political opponent in jail, and you pretend that you’re the ones who favor democracy? It’s a joke,” Mercer finished.
