News commentators across the political spectrum — including some contributors here at Straight Arrow News — have warned Americans about Donald Trump’s aspirations to make himself a dictator and effectively end the American republic if he regains power in November. Their warnings cite Trump’s own legal arguments, public statements and past behavior, including the attempted coup that culminated in a deadly attack on the U.S. Capitol.
Americans who viewed Donald Trump as an existential threat to democracy and America rallied around these shared concerns to help mobilize a historic turnout in the 2020 U.S. elections and put Democrats back in power.
Watch the above video as Straight Arrow News contributor Ben Weingarten says that these Americans don’t actually care about democracy, and insists instead that what they really care about is power.

The following is an excerpt of the above video:
This self-styled group of democracy-defenders is laboring months in advance of a Trump presidency to disenfranchise his voters, fearing that perpetual efforts to smear him in the media, slander, silence, and threaten his supporters with lawfare and weaponized government agencies, and get the man thrown off the ballot, break, bankrupt, silence, and jail him are failing.
It’s self-evident they don’t care one iota for democracy. As always, they care about protecting their favored agenda which redounds to their benefit. Donald Trump in office means less power and privilege for his foes. And they simply can’t abide it.
We are told “the early timing, volume and scale of the planning underway to push back against a potential second Trump administration are without precedent.”
That’s because they fear this time the Trump administration will be better prepared to execute its agenda.
