The Vladimir Putin regime suffered its second terrorist attack in mere months and this time it targeted Russia’s synagogues and churches.
Knewz.com has learned that these attacks in the dominantly Muslim republic of Dagestan claimed as many as 20 lives.
Said gunmen, affiliated with a terror group, ISIS K, killed 15 law-enforcement officers and according to a report by CNN News’s Nick Paton Walsh, injured 46.
A video capturing the attack depicted thick black smoke pouring out of burning structures during daylight hours before the footage switched to a night scene with emergency vehicles’ flashing lights and the sound of automatic gunfire.
Walsh reported that police “struggled into the night to gain control” and noted that at least three gunmen were killed in the attack.

During the incident, a Telegram update was made by the local governor, Sergei Melikov. It stated: “This evening in Derbent and Makhachkala, unknown persons made attempts to destabilize the social situation. Dagestan police officers stood in their way. According to preliminary information, there are casualties among them.”
The Russian state-sponsored news outlet TASS in the Dagestani capital of Makhachkala, reported: “An attack on the synagogue in Derbent was staged at about 5:50 PM local time, forty minutes before the evening prayer. <…> A similar attack was staged on a synagogue in Makhachkala.”
Melikov’s page then further elaborated: “Plan ‘Interception’ announced. The identities of the attackers are being established. An operational headquarters has been created, all necessary decisions will be made in a timely manner in the interests of the safety of the residents of the republic.”

Walsh corroborated these claims and said that three of the suspects killed in the attack were related to an unnamed local official (a son, and a nephew who happened to be a mixed martial arts fighter.)
Other fatalities incurred during the bloodshed included a priest, Father Nikolai, who allegedly had his throat slit during a hostage situation.
While ISIS K, the terrorist cell suspected of the carnage, is yet to claim responsibility for the attack its affiliate group in Afghanistan has released a statement, per Associated Press, referring to them as: “Brothers in the Caucasus who showed that they are still strong.”
Melikov blamed “sleeping cells” that were “formed [and] financed,” whose actions were “controlled and coordinated.”
This incident follows three months after another terrorist attack that took place in the Russian Capital’s Crocus City Hall, where crowds gathered to watch a concert.

According to an assessment by the United States mission to the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), more than 130 people were killed in and as a result of the attack also perpetrated by ISIS K.
While not the first of its kind, it is certainly the group’s first successful attempt in Russia.
The last time a terrorist incident of such a magnitude transpired, it was the act of ethnic rebels who enacted the Beslan School Siege in which 1,200 people were taken hostage, per Oxford Academic.
Thanks to the Russian security services’ hamfisted approach, a total of 330 people were killed including 180 children.
