Gunfire erupted at a nightclub in west Louisville in the early hours of Saturday morning, leaving one dead and seven wounded, among them a person still in critical condition.
Officers with the Louisville Metro Police Department were called to the H20 Lounge in the Russell neighborhood, shortly before 1 a.m., WDRB reported. When they arrived on the scene, they immediately encountered two people suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite administering life-saving aid, one of the victims was pronounced dead on the scene.
The second victim was taken to University Hospital with critical and life-threatening injuries. Their current condition was not clear.
Amid their investigation into the violence, authorities were alerted by medical staff at local hospitals to another six victims. Police said they self-transported and sought out care on their own in wake of the shooting. None of their injuries are believed to be life-threatening.
So far, few other details about the gunfire have been released and no arrests have been made.
The circumstances leading up to the shooting are also unclear and authorities said they’re still working to determine the relationship, if any, between the victims.
The LMPD has asked that anyone with information come forward.
An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
