CV NEWS FEED // St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital has donated a relic of Saint Jude Thaddeus the Apostle to the Catholic Diocese of Memphis, after storing the memorial of the saint for decades.
According to a local June 21 News Channel 3 report, the relic, composed of a bone chip removed from the body of the saint and embedded in a small cross, was moved to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception on June 17.
The hospital stated that the relic had been received as a donation, and had been stored in the office of St Jude Spiritual Care Services for several decades.
The office’s Director, Mark Brown, told News Channel 3 that he had tried to explore possible ways that the relic could be displayed more prominently with hospital leadership.
However, he said, “a good option could not be found,” and the hospital administrators suggested donating the relic to the Cathedral.
Immaculate Conception parish pastor, Fr Robert Szcechur and associate pastor Fr Horst Lorenz personally went to St Jude campus to retrieve the relic.
According to the report, the parish intends to incorporate the relic into its weekly novenas, during which parishioners often say special prayers for St Jude’s Hospital patients.
