Three portable charger models sold exclusively at Costco are being recalled after two house fires. The fires were blamed on the unit overheating.
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall on June 20, 2024.
The recall involves “myCharge POWER HUB All-In-One 10,000mAh” chargers. The affected models are “AO10FK-A,” “AO10FK-B,” and “AO10FK-C.”
“The portable chargers are black with two attached cables. They have retractable wall prongs to recharge the power bank. ‘myCharge’ is printed on the front. The model number is on the back,” they stated.
The date codes end in 21 or 22. Four specific date codes ending in 23 are also included: 0123, 0923, 1523, and 1723.
About 567,000 chargers are under recall. They pose a risk of overheating and burns, said the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
The commission received 120 reports of overheating. “myCharge” reported five incidents, including two house fires. These fires caused $165,000 in property damage.
Costco received 115 returns of the chargers. Returns cited issues like melting, expanding, smoking, fire, burning, exploding, or sparking.
No injuries were reported, said the release.
Consumers should stop using the recalled chargers immediately. Contact “myCharge” for a replacement.
“myCharge” has a dedicated page for returning the affected products.
Due to lithium-ion batteries, the recalled chargers cannot be disposed of in household trash. They should not go in a battery recycling box either.
“Dispose of recalled lithium-ion batteries according to local and state laws. Follow procedures from your municipal recycling center for damaged batteries,” they advised.
