I looked back at Mount Rainier disappearing behind me as I sat in the window seat of the Red Tail as it carried us into the danger zone November 1966. Little did we know none of us would come back the same, if we came back at all.
Duty called and we answered the call.
It’s been fifty eight years yet is seems like just yesterday. Dressed in our khakais we all looked the same except for the nervous laughter and looks on everyone’s face. It’s a feeling I can’t recapture but the moment is as crystal clear to me as if it happened yesterday.
Lets celebrate our liberty this July 4th, and remember all who served making liberty possible, especially those who never came home.
Duty still calls today as much as ever, especially domestically.
