Former President Donald Trump made an appearance at the Faith & Freedom Coalition conference in Washington, D.C., this past weekend. In the midst of his remarks, he turned the spotlight on Louisiana’s Republican governor, who had just signed a new bill into law that mandates the display of the Ten Commandments in all public school classrooms.
With the crowd erupting into applause, Trump asked, “Who likes the Ten Commandments, by the way, going up in the school?” He proceeded to address those who oppose the idea, bluntly asserting, “They think it’s such a bad thing. I said, ‘Has anyone read the… Thou Shalt Not Steal, Thou Shall…? I mean, has anybody read this incredible stuff? It’s just incredible, they don’t want it to go up. It’s a crazy world.”
CNN, always on the lookout for a chance to pounce on anything related to Trump, seized upon Trump’s endorsement of the Ten Commandments display, hoping to create a controversial soundbite.
