Retired family court judge Judy Sheindlin, famously known as Judge Judy, has criticized Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for prioritizing the prosecution of former President Donald Trump over addressing more pressing criminal activities in New York City. During an interview with CNN’s Chris Wallace, Sheindlin expressed her displeasure with Bragg’s focus, suggesting it is a misuse of taxpayers’ money.
Sheindlin, who became a household name through her Judge Judy television show, emphasized that Bragg should concentrate on curbing the criminal behavior that makes it difficult for New Yorkers to safely navigate their streets and subways. “I would be happier if the district attorney of New York County would take care of criminals who were making it impossible for citizens to walk in the streets and use the subway,” she stated.
On May 30, a Manhattan jury found Trump guilty of falsifying business records related to payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign. Sheindlin criticized the case, labeling it “nonsense” and a poor use of funds. “I resent using the system for your own personal self-aggrandizement,” she added, referring to Bragg’s actions.
Sheindlin’s comments come in the wake of Trump’s conviction on 34 counts of falsifying business records. These charges, typically misdemeanors, were elevated to felonies under Bragg’s assertion that the records were falsified to cover up a federal crime, despite Trump not being convicted of such a crime.
Sheindlin further remarked on her perception of Trump, acknowledging his business acumen and his success on “The Apprentice,” but also stating her belief that he should not have been president. She suggested that even Trump himself might not have anticipated his presidency.
