Dale Huttle may be 73-years-old now, but the man from northwest Indiana is proving that you’re never too old to raise a little hell.
Huttle has been given a 30-month sentence in Washington District Court for striking an officer with a flagpole on January 6, 2021.
A U.S. District Judge also gave the man 24 months of supervised release and ordered him to pay nearly $4,000 for damages down to the Capitol grounds.
Back in 2022, Huttle proudly declared himself the “ultimate patriot” for showing up at the Capitol building that day.
Huttle’s nephew was with him on January 6 as well. Matthew was sentenced back in November of 2023 to six months in jail and is now out on a year of parole.
According to the plea statement, “Huttle and his nephew entered the Capitol grounds and engaged in several violent confrontations with law enforcement on the Lower West Terrace.”
The report goes on to say that “shortly after 2:05 p.m., as a mob of rioters began to forcefully remove bike rack barriers set up to secure the area, Dale Huttle approached the front of a crowd of rioters with a long wooden flagpole in hand.”
Next, Huttle apparently caused an injury to an officer that causes the officer pain to this very day:
“Once the rioters moved the bike rack, Huttle lunged at an officer and hit him in the stomach. The officer lost his footing and fell on stairs, which caused a slipped disc in his back. The officer said he still suffers from back pain and continues treatment for the injury.”
According to America’s Department of Justice, Huttle is one of more than 1,2000 individuals who have been charged for crimes related to the breach of the U.S. Capitol.
Do you think this is fair punishment against somebody who committed a crime, or should Huttle be excused because of his assertion that he was being a “great patriot?”
