The pro-life country song “I Was Gonna Be,” written by renowned songwriter Chris Wallin and performed by 18-year-old country artist Rachel Holt, has made its way into the top 5 on the iTunes Country Charts.
The song’s rise follows appearances by both Holt and Wallin on TimCast, where they performed the song live on air. Baste Records, which helped produce the song, “Hunter Got High” produced the pro-life song for release.
During her appearance on Timcast, Holt told TPM editor-in-chief Libby Emmons about the vitriol that she has gotten from people in her hometown after the song was released. Emmons inquired about the hate she has gotten over the song in reference to a conversation they had before going live on Timcast.
Holt responded, “Some of the worst things, like … ‘We shouldn’t care what she thinks.’ Just like people that you wouldn’t suspect to say such things. Like, they can have their own opinion but the second that I do it’s terrible.”
In an interview with Breitbart News, Wallin expressed his surprise and gratitude for the song’s success.
“I’m just humbled honestly. When I first started writing this song I didn’t think anyone would ever actually sing it. I wrote it because I thought something had to be said,” Wallin said.
