The Republican Party is not very thrilled with Judge Juan Merchan right now.
The man was already on thin ice, but when he gave out his jury instructions, well, that was the last straw.
With sentencing awaiting and a ruling on a gag order, several Republican lawmakers warned Judge Merchan.
Thin Ice
The scheduling date for the sentencing hearing has a lot of people concerned as to what Merchan’s plans are for Trump.
The fact he scheduled it only days before the Republican National Convention seems very suspicious.
Did he make that date so he could put Trump in jail or order a house arrest so Trump would miss the convention and be taken off the campaign trail for the final few months of the election?
There are a lot of people who think that is exactly what he is going to do.
Senator John Cornyn (R-TX) stated, “I’m very troubled by what I see in the way the courts have been weaponized.
“It used to be there were some institutions in America, namely the FBI, the Department of Justice and the courts, which were regarded as out of bounds for overt partisan politics, but unfortunately that’s changed, and not for the better.”
Senator Ted Budd (R-N.C.) also commented, stating, “But when you see the conviction and the rules that he instructed the jury with, it’s completely unfair, it’s unconstitutional, and I would put nothing past him at this point.”
Merchan has also been asked to remove the gag order from Trump now that the trial is over, but Bragg’s office is fighting that as well.
Trump needs that gag order lifted so he can rebut any claims made by Biden during the debate later this month. Otherwise, it would allow Biden to fire off attacks, leaving Trump unable to defend himself.
Some might call that election interference… just saying.
