The ongoing backlash against Texas Children’s Hospital was exacerbated this week after footage showing two FBI agents going to the home of a whistleblower went viral.
Since then the children’s hospital has closed its pediatric sex change clinic, according to a source who spoke with City Journal’s Christopher Rufo.
This decision to close also comes on the heels of a statement from a spokesman for Attorney General Ken Paxton, confirming an investigation into alleged Medicaid fraud at the hospital.
Rufo has been spearheading this story, revealing earlier in the week that special agents Paul Nixon and David McBride appeared outside the home of Vanessa Sivadge.
He reported that Sivadge helped expose an illegal gender program at the hospital after noticing alarming problems like depression, suicide attempts and discomfort with puberty amidst the “dramatic” rise in the number of trans children.
The hospital, however, ignored these problems and instead diagnosed so-called trans kids with “gender dysphoria,” assigning them to a regimen of “gender-affirming care.”
Sivadge disclosed that doctors at the facility continued providing sex changes to minors despite previous assurances from Texas Children’s CEO Mark Wallace that the clinic would shut down.
The nurse and whistleblower alleged that doctors were billing the state Medicaid program for transgender procedures, which is prohibited by Texas law.
She highlighted that many young patients were enrolled in Texas Children’s Health Plan STAR, a “no-cost Medicaid managed care plan.”
“The largest children’s hospital in the country is illegally billing Medicaid for transgender procedures,” she asserted.
“It is evident that the hospital continues to believe it is above the law not just by concealing the existence of their transgender medicine program from the public, but by stealing from the federal government.”
Sivadge later told Rufo she viewed the FBI agents’ presence on her property as a threat.
“They promised they would make life difficult for me if I was trying to protect the leaker,” she recounted.
“They said I was ‘not safe’ at work and claimed that someone at my workplace had given my name to the FBI.”
The shocking encounter sparked a firestorm online, with one user calling FBI agents “domestic terrorists” and another saying “they’re one step away from becoming the gestapo.”
The closure and investigation coincide with legal troubles for Texas doctor Eithan Haim, who faces up to 10 years in prison for opposing child sex changes at Texas Children’s Hospital.
The Department of Justice accuses Haim of “obtaining protected individual health information for patients that were not under his care and without authorization.”
He is now facing four felony charges for violating HIPAA.
Haim told Rufo he’s anxious to get to trial so his side of the story can be revealed.
One of Haim’s attorneys told Rufo she’s “confident” the trial will result in the correct decision being made.
“Nonetheless, the prosecutor has pressed forward, hoping, at the least, to intimidate other medical professionals who would consider blowing the whistle on the barbarism of ‘transgender medicine,’” Rufo wrote of the case.
