CV NEWS FEED // A Portland Catholic church recovered its stolen monstrance this week, just days after the church’s stolen tabernacle was returned on June 15.
CatholicVote previously reported that St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church in Portland, Oregon, was robbed three times between May 28 and 29. When the tabernacle and the consecrated hosts were stolen, the church offered a $1,000 reward. The monstrance was also stolen at the same time as the tabernacle.
A woman not connected with the burglary returned the tabernacle to St. Michael’s on June 15, but Portland police said they were still looking for the monstrance.
According to a June 19 police bulletin, three police teams served a search warrant in southwest Portland related to the burglaries.
During the warrant service, detectives received information about the last known location of the stolen monstrance,” the police reported. “They followed up on that tip and were able to recover the monstrance in Northeast Portland.”
The monstrance was then returned to St. Michael’s. No information has been provided as to whether or not the stolen consecrated hosts were returned with either the tabernacle or the monstrance.
The police’s investigation into the burglaries is still ongoing.
