Rep. Bob Good (R-VA) remains hopeful in the closely contested primary race for Virginia’s fifth congressional district, where he faces a strong challenge from John McGuire. Despite the narrow margin, Good believes he can still emerge victorious.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, Good stated, “This race remains too close to call. We are in a period where the law provides a process for evaluating the accuracy of all the vote totals from election day to ensure everyone can have full confidence in the certified results.”
Good highlighted the ongoing counting of provisional and mail-in ballots as critical to the final outcome. “Provisional ballots and mail-in ballots are also still to be counted,” he noted. “We are asking for full transparency from the officials involved and patience from the people of the 5th District over the coming weeks as the certification of results is completed. We believe we can still prevail.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, McGuire leads slightly with 50.3% of the votes, while Good holds 49.7%, according to NBC News.
The primary has garnered significant attention, particularly due to high-profile endorsements. Former President Donald Trump has endorsed McGuire, while Good has received support from prominent Freedom Caucus members, including Reps. Chip Roy (R-TX), Andrew Clyde (R-GA), and Andy Biggs (R-AZ).
Good’s endorsement of Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis in the GOP presidential primary has also added complexity to the race, drawing criticism from Trump.
The final result will depend on the thorough counting and certification process of all ballots. Both candidates and their supporters are keenly awaiting the certified results to determine the winner of this tightly contested primary.
