Disney has been suffering from its ill-conceived fight with Florida. It all began when the company publicly opposed Florida’s Parental Rights in Education bill, which critics dubbed the “Don’t Say Gay” law. Governor Ron DeSantis and state lawmakers, irked by Disney’s stance, responded by targeting the company’s special tax district, known as the Reedy Creek Improvement District.
This move threatens Disney’s autonomy over its own operations and has set the stage for a fierce legal and political showdown.
Disney has not come out as the winner, though, as Florida Republicans stood firm. Florida continues to win out over Disney. The liberal company tried to seek revenge against Florida by pulling lucrative projects. One of those projects was a planned campus for its employees. Disney left those workers high and dry. Now, they are fighting back.
The Walt Disney Company continues to pay a steep price for its political war with Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R).
Disney is now facing a class action lawsuit from some of its own employees who re-located from California to Florida for the planned Lake Nona campus in the Orlando area, only to find themselves with nowhere to go after Disney canceled the $1 billion project last year amid its beef with DeSantis over the state’s ban on gay and transgender indoctrination in schools.
Employees filed the lawsuit Tuesday in Los Angeles County Superior Court, alleging Disney fraudulently induced them to sell their homes in Southern California and move to Central Florida. The L.A. Times was the first to report on the suit. [Source: Breitbart]
Wow, this is bad. At the height of the battle between Florida and Disney, the company canceled a billion-dollar project. It had planned to build a campus on Lake Nona that would serve as home for 2,000 employees. The problem? Disney had forced employees to sell their homes in California and relocate to Florida. Only for Disney to abandon them in their fight with Florida.
According to one report, an employee sold a home that had been in his family for generations.
I know major corporations are soulless, but come on! How did Bob Iger not consider the welfare of workers who were planning to live on this new campus? Did he think they could just buy back their old homes? Or that they would not be ticked off that he betrayed them?
This is pretty alarming, the more you think about it. It shows us that woke politics are more important to some liberals than basic human decency. Not that we haven’t seen that already in Democrats’ heartless battles with Trump. But for Disney to screw over loyal employees just to spite Florida is really beyond the pale.
