Two cyclists in Texas were violently thrown from their bikes and callously run over by a hit-and-run driver in a shocking incident caught on camera.
The terrifying ordeal reportedly occurred near Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on Tuesday, according to footage circulating on social media.
In the disturbing video, the unsuspecting riders can be seen cycling in the right-hand lane when a white SUV suddenly approaches from behind.
The driver then appears to intentionally ram both cyclists, throwing them from their bikes.
As one of the injured cyclists lay helpless on the road, the SUV driver mercilessly plows directly over him, crushing his legs and bicycle before speeding away from the scene.
Witnesses quickly pursued the fleeing driver, who was later apprehended by authorities, according to the individual who filmed the incident, identified only as @auroramyst on social media.
“Riders who were hit are expected to be ok, thank God,” the witness posted on X.
The user also posted an image showing an unidentified man being apprehended by police officers.
The motive behind the driver’s actions remains unclear, and it has not been confirmed whether the incident was intentional or if the driver has been formally charged.
When asked by another X user about why the incident occurred, Aurora replied, “We don’t know yet. I don’t think it was intentional, unless he just hates cyclists. He was probably on the phone or looking at the car next to him or something.”
Users responded to the incident blaming the cyclists for riding on the road, to which Aurora replied: “I see comments on here blaming the cyclists for riding in the roadway. When bicyclists ride in large groups, they often have to ride on the road because there is no bike path.”
“It’s not against the law. I am not an advocate for either side of that debate either, but there is no excuse for what this driver did. He had plenty of time to slow down and go around,” she continued.
“If he was mad that bicyclists were in his lane, hitting them and running over them is not the way to deal with it,” she stated.
“If he was just not paying attention, he could have hit anyone, a motorists changing a car tire or someone else. Either way, it’s dangerous, it’s avoidable and its a crime.”
