Police in Washington City, Utah are investigating a double homicide that occurred on Tuesday evening.
According to a statement from the Washington City Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunshots in a residential area just after 7 p.m.
Upon arriving at the scene, they discovered two individuals deceased inside a home.
“Washington City Police Officers arrived on scene and entered the residence through the front door,” the report said. “Upon entry into the home, two deceased adults (one female and one male) were located inside from apparent gunshot wounds, the Daily Mail reports.
“Officers on scene attempted life saving efforts on the two victims but efforts were unsuccessful. Upon searching the home further, no other victims and no suspects were located. From the initial investigation, it was apparent a double homicide had occurred.”
Police have identified a suspect in the case, Mia Bailey, a 30-year-old man who identifies as a woman. He is described as white, 5’10” tall, 130 pounds, with brown hair. Police noted that Bailey frequently changes his hairstyle and sometimes wears wigs.
He was last seen leaving the area in a yellow 2014 Kia Sol with Utah license plate U069GF. Anyone with information about her whereabouts is asked to contact the police.
Law enforcement officials have stated that the individual’s location is currently undetermined, and they have warned that he is considered “armed and dangerous.”
Authorities have advised members of the public not to confront the man if they encounter him; instead, they should immediately notify the police or other relevant law enforcement agencies.
Despite suspecting that the suspect may still be in the vicinity, law enforcement authorities have stated that they do not perceive any immediate threats to general public.
Authorities have not disclosed the nature of the relationship between the suspect and the individuals found murdered in the residence.
“The Washington City Police Department sends our heartfelt condolences to the victim’s family in this horrific tragedy,” the statement read.
“We also want to thank all those who assisted with this incident, which is Washington County Sheriff’s Office, St George City Police Department, Utah Highway Patrol, Washington County Attorney’s Office, and local citizens on scene.”
