In a display of vigilante justice, a group of good Samaritans apprehended a 25-year-old Ecuadorean migrant wanted for the brutal sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl at Queens Park.
The incident, captured on video and in photos obtained by The New York Post, shows the shirtless suspect, later identified by police as Christian Geovanny Inga-Landi, cowering on the sidewalk as the angry mob pummels him and calls him out as “a rapist.”
The footage reveals the chaos of the moment, with a woman clutching Inga-Landi’s hair and screaming in Spanish, “Where are you going? Where are you going? He’s a rapist. He don’t care.”
The suspect, desperate to escape the vigilante mob’s wrath, is seen crawling under a parked car, prompting the woman to yell, “He’s under the car. He’s hiding under the car because we beat the sh*t out of him.”
Inga-Landi now faces a slew of charges, including rape, kidnapping, and sex abuse, thanks to the flood of help from the public, including the good Samaritans who took matters into their own hands and restrained him on the street.
The NYPD brass praised the civilians’ efforts in aiding the suspect’s arrest.
One of the heroes, Jeffrey Flores, 24, recounted how he waited for Inga-Landi to come out of a deli on 108th Street, just a few blocks from the park where the assault took place.
Flores recognized the suspect from police wanted posters and surveillance video released by the NYPD.
“I seen him a few times — he comes to this store to buy stuff,” Flores told The Post. “I waited for him. I waited the whole day to see if he would come up. He came at night.”
When Inga-Landi emerged from the store, Flores seized the opportunity. “I saw what he was trying to do, he looked back at me. I waited for him to come out the store and dragged him to the floor. A couple people helped me.”
The accused molester, who has been the subject of a massive NYPD manhunt, allegedly used a “machete-style knife” to force the young victim and her friend into a secluded area in Kissena Park on Thursday, where he tied them up with shoelaces and sexually assaulted the girl.
The crime mobilized New Yorkers, with police releasing images of the suspect and posting wanted posters throughout Flushing. Sources said Inga-Landi lived at an SRO in the neighborhood.
According to Flores, the suspect attempted to fight back during the confrontation with the good Samaritans.
“He tried to fight back,” Flores said. “He tried to run for his life but he couldn’t. Yeah, he admitted to it. He was saying, ‘Alright, alright, alright. Don’t hit me, don’t hit me.’”
Flores, who has two little sisters and is expecting a daughter, expressed his disgust at the park assault.
“I got two little sisters and I’m about to have a daughter on the way,” he said. “I don’t like that. That’s abusive. That’s not right.”
A 22-year-old friend of Flores, identified as Forge, had shown him a photo of the accused attacker from Instagram and was there to help apprehend the suspect.
“We didn’t know he was a rapist,” Forge said Tuesday. “He was walking around us like any other regular person. Once we started seeing the picture we waited for him and ended up catching him.”
The suspect has not yet been officially charged, but the actions of the vigilante group have brought a sense of relief to the community, which has been on edge since the assault took place.
