A Kansas father was arrested Monday and charged with the death of his infant son in April.
Hays Police said emergency medical personnel were dispatched to a room at the Rodeway Inn just after noon on April 2 and found a 5-month-old child not breathing. They performed CPR and took the baby to Hays Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
An autopsy found methamphetamine in the baby’s system and determined he died from meth intoxication.
Abraham Duran Leon was arrested and charged with second degree murder in the death of Fernando Leon III.
Fernando’s mother, Brandi Niehoff, pleaded no contest in 2020 to aggravated child endangerment in the 2017 death of another son, 14-month old Gabriel Usoro, the Hays Post reported. Niehoff was not considered a suspect in Fernando’s death.
Jody Steven Fox pleaded no contest to second degree murder and child abuse charges in Gabriel’s death and was sentenced to nearly 20 years in prison.
