A Mississippi teenager has been charged with attempted murder and first-degree arson after allegedly stabbing her mother several times and trying to set the residence on fire.
Lexi Jade Brown, 15, was arrested after police responded to a Gulfport, Miss., residence early in the morning on Friday, June 14, “in reference to a cutting incident,” Gulfport police said in a statement on Monday. They found a woman with multiple stab wounds.
The alleged victim reportedly woke up to Brown stabbing her as she lay in bed, investigators say, adding that “Brown then attempted to start a fire inside the residence.”
During the investigation, Brown allegedly told authorities she had planned to kill her mother because the alleged victim was a “weird b—-,” the statement claims.
Brown allegedly said her mother was “suppressing the black in her,” per the statement, but it did not clarify the reference any further.
Brown is being held at an adult detention facility on $1.25 million bond, per police. Juveniles over the age of 13 are tried as adults for criminal offenses in the state.
The investigation is ongoing and police are requesting anyone with information surrounding the incident to contact the Gulfport Police Department at 228-868-5959 or Mississippi Coast Crime Stoppers at 877-787-5898.
