Late-night comedian Seth Meyers issued an off-putting “disclaimer” following a joke about President Biden’s age and a montage of him tripping on stairs and freezing in public.
Meyers was torched online for making it clear there’s “no equivalency” between Biden and his GOP opponent, former President Trump.
“Now a quick disclaimer for anybody who’s mad about my Biden-is-old jokes,” Meyers began. “He’s the most powerful man in the world. He can take a joke.”
“As we made clear on this show repeatedly, there’s no equivalency between a competent 81-year-old who occasionally shows signs of age and a demented 77-year-old criminal who says dead people rigged the election and thinks electric boat batteries will lead to shark attacks,” he continued.
The liberal comedian, who has not hidden his support for Biden over the years, then cautioned viewers that the election was a “binary choice.”
“This is a good reminder, that while I like a president that could at least sway back and forth a little bit, this election is a binary choice.”
“I do prefer stone-cold Joe Biden over a hot dog salesman who’s only got two left to sell,” he said right before showing a clip of Trump dancing at one of his campaign rallies.

X users blasted Meyers for his “quick disclaimer,” with a user writing, “Jokes should also be in quotes. Never heard this guy say anything remotely funny.”
One posted Meyers was “foundering,” while another said, “No wonder his show sucks and his bosses fired his band. His show is gone by the end of that contract in 2028 guaranteed.”
Some mainstream media outlets praised Meyers for the bit, however, with HuffPost claiming the late-night host utterly shredded Trump with his jokes.
Biden joined Meyers for an interview back in February, where the host lightly poked fun at the president’s age before the two went out for ice cream.
Fox News reported that CBS’s “The Late Show” host Stephen Colbert appeared at a lavish fundraiser for Biden’s campaign.
ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel is reportedly hosting another star-studded fundraiser for Biden in June.
Trump and Biden will have their first debate at the end of the month on June 27. It will take place in Atlanta and be hosted on CNN.
The Biden campaign agreed to the debate as long as certain demands were met, including having no audience present.
The only other people allowed in the room during the debate will be moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash, Resist the Mainstream reported.
“The debates should be conducted for the benefit of the American voters, watching on television and at home — not as entertainment for an in-person audience with raucous or disruptive partisans and donors, who consume valuable debate time with noisy spectacles of approval or jeering,” the Biden campaign wrote.
“As was the case with the original televised debates in 1960, a television studio with just the candidates and moderators is a better, more cost-efficient way to proceed: focused solely on the interests of voters.”
Microphones will be muted once each candidate’s respective time is up to prevent a repeat of the 2020 presidential debates, according to the Biden campaign.
It also requested that any other debates be hosted by CNN, CBS, and ABC.
Fox News is notably excluded.
