Eight people, including two children, were shot at a Michigan water park Saturday afternoon, with the gunman later killing himself.
The shooting occurred at about 5 p.m. at a “splash pad” in the town of Rochester Hills, with families gathered to escape the summer heat.
The gunman drove up, got out of a vehicle, opened fire with a 9mm Glock semi-automatic handgun, reloaded, fired, and then reloaded a second time, firing 28 shots and leaving three bullet magazines at the scene, Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said at a press conference.
Authorities said they tracked the suspect by identifying his vehicle to a mobile home nearby, surrounded it, with the gunman taking his own life.
The victims, at least two of them children, were transported to at least four area hospitals, but their conditions were unknown, Sheriff Bouchard said, local media reported.
Bouchard earlier said the shooter was believed to be contained in a residence nearby at the Dequindre Estates mobile home park, with police, including a SWAT team surrounding it.
