On Friday, radio host Charlamagne Tha God hit out at President Joe Biden and other Democratic politicians, saying that they come across as “goofy” and “corny” because of their inability to connect with voters, and accusing them of barely bothering to talk with the people they claim to represent.
Charlamagne made the comments during his “Brilliant Idiots” podcast on Friday, alongside co-host Andrew Schulz. In the clip, reposted on X by the Daily Caller, Biden can be seen standing awkwardly during a concert hosted by gospel singer Kirk Franklin on the White House lawn, while his cabinet danced and sang with the music.
Schulz and Charlamagne cracked a few jokes at Biden’s expense, with Charlamagne saying, “President Biden don’t know what’s going on. Kirk Franklin is onstage performing… I just wanna know why Joe Biden is just sitting like he’s f—ing buffering.”
“He’s scared! There’s Black people everywhere,” Schulz joked prompting laughter. “The guy’s from the 1800s.”
“Yo, I was like, Joe Biden probably was thinking, ‘Yo, there hasn’t been this many Black people on the White House lawn since they built this place,” Charlamagne joked back.
Charlamagne later read a question from comedian and musician Lil Duval, who asked, “I’m just wondering what did they expect to gain by posting this? They really thought this made them look normal? Who’s in charge of marketing to regular folks?”
Charlamagne then offered his advice to the president, joking that he should make an appearance at Duval Day, an event created by Duval for the community in Jacksonville, FL.
“Get off the hill and get to the hood,” Charlamagne said, suggesting that Biden should make appearances at actual events in places across the nation. “Those black people on the hill got y’all doing corny, goofy stuff like that. And they got y’all, you know, like, one thing about those elected officials, especially the Democrats, man, they talk about the people they don’t even talk to. You know what I’m saying? And they claim to talk for the people they don’t even talk to. Go down to Duval day and see what the hood really thinks about something, man. I’ve said that.”
Charlamagne then added that if Democrats don’t want to “go to the hood,” they should instead go to historically black colleges and universities.
“Go down to one of the HBCUs in Jacksonville,” he said. “Go down to one of the HBCUs in Atlanta. Have town halls.”
“Nah, go to the hood,” Schulz said. “What hood should they go to?”
“VP Kamala Harris should pull up to the hood, not President Biden,” Charlamagne specified.
Schulz then noted former President Donald Trump’s large rally in the Bronx in May, one of the heaviest Democrat-leaning areas in the nation, with Charlamagne acknowledging, “He definitely was in the Bronx,” and adding that a pair of New York rappers, “Sleepy Hallow and Sheff G,” were seen at the event.
Earlier in the week, Charlamagne had criticized black media personalities for defending Hunter Biden after he was convicted in a federal gun trial on Tuesday.
“Hunter Biden gets sentenced, and I see black folks in media: ‘This is wrong, this is some BS. Nobody gets charged with this.’ Negro, please. If you was black and they thought you was on drugs and you did what Hunter Biden did, they would have been put you under the jail,” he said on “The Breakfast Club.”
The black vote has become something of a concern for the Biden administration, as they struggle in the polls with the historically Democratic group. “This is part of a larger trend line … that we’re seeing among nonwhite voters, we see among black voters as well,” said CNN senior data reporter Harry Enten shortly after Trump’s rally in the Bronx.
“We’ve discussed that on this program before, whereby they’re much more favorable to Donald Trump than they were four years ago. And of course, Donald Trump did better amongst both of those groups in 2020 versus how he did in 2016.”
