A Michigan mother has been charged with murder in the death of her 3-year-old son in April.
Oakland County Sheriff’s deputies said they responded to a home on April 25 on a call about an unresponsive toddler, WDIV reports. When they arrived, they found 27-year-old Latonya Shante Thomas attempting to perform CPR on her son, Zaveion Thomas.
Paramedics took the boy the hospital, but medics were unable to save him.
An autopsy later determined that the boy had injuries consistent with an assault. His death was ruled a homicide.
Detectives say that the child’ mother assaulted him, inflicting the injuries that killed him.
Thomas was arrested in Flint on Thursday and is being held on a $1 million bond on charges of felony murder and first degree child abuse. Her next court date is June 25.
