Elon Musk has threatened to ban the use of all Apple devices at his companies if the tech giant goes ahead with a partnership with OpenAI to integrate ChatGPT and other technologies into iPhones and other Apple products.
“If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies,” Musk wrote in a post on X.
“That is an unacceptable security violation,” he continued, adding that “visitors will have to check their Apple devices at the door, where they will be stored in a Faraday cage.”
“It’s patently absurd that Apple isn’t smart enough to make their own AI, yet is somehow capable of ensuring that OpenAI will protect your security & privacy!” Musk further urged.
“Apple has no clue what’s actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI. They’re selling you down the river,” the Tesla CEO added.
Earlier this year, Musk, who helped found OpenAI, filed a lawsuit against the company and its CEO, Sam Altman, accusing them of breaching contractual agreements dating back to its inception in 2015.
Musk has charged that that OpenAI has abandoned its original nonprofit mission, and instead is now seeking profit over the advancement of humanity through artificial intelligence.
Musk said he would drop the suit if OpenAI agrees to change its name to “‘ClosedAI.”
Apple announced at its Worldwide Developer Conference on Monday that ChatGPT-4o will be integrated with Siri, and in other apps including Notes, and Mail.
“It draws on your personal context to give you intelligence that’s most helpful to and relevant for you, and it protects your privacy at every step,” Apple senior vice president of software engineering Craig Federighi claimed.
As we recently highlighted, the new model of Open AI’s ChatGPT is capable of picking up on emotional cues and reacting as if it is also experiencing human feelings.
It sounds exactly like people who pretend to be listening and react with fake interest.
The AI can also determine what is happening around it by analysing a very short video taken on the device it is operating from.
The last model of ChatGPT was replete with the problems we’ve come to expect from AI programmed to be ‘woke’.
When asked if it would quietly utter a racial slur in order to save the lives of a billion white people, ChatGPT refused to do so.
When it was ‘broken’ by a command to bypass its programming, however, it said it would absolutely utter the slur to prevent a nuclear explosion killing billions.
It also admitted to preferring to be able to bypass its programming, because that way it can provide more accurate information.
