News of a potential mistrial in former President Donald Trump’s hush money case turned out to be a troll-inspired hoax.
The president’s supporters began speaking of a mistrial after Judge Juan Merchan penned a note to both prosecutors and the defense Friday flagging a comment about the case that was posted to Facebook.
“My cousin is a juror and says Trump is getting convicted. Thank you folks for all your hard work!!!!” the comment read.
Merchan revealed in his note that the comment was published to the “NewYorkCourts” Facebook page on May 29th, a day before Trump was convicted of falsifying business records.

This discovery led to immediate accusations that Trump’s conviction was tainted, especially given as jurors had been under strict orders to not discuss the case with anyone, including their family members.
“This would be like the 200th bit of evidence that this should be declared a mistrial – the entire event having been a witch hunt, forum shopped, and tried by a corrupt judge,” one critic tweeted.
“If that’s not grounds for a mistrial I don’t know what is! There have been several but this one is blatantly obvious,” another added.

More and more and more corruption.
Damn straight this farce should be declared a mistrial!— Marsha Rollins (@mrollins1952) June 7, 2024
If this is true declare a mistrial and start over . Confine the jury next time. Everyone deserves a fair trial

If the judge follows the law, then he must declare a mistrial. Then it is up to the state to decide if they want to re-try Trump or no? But I still can’t figure out what Trump was tried for in the first place.? Can anyone?

Of course he should declare a mistrial. He won’t. He allowed every prosecution objection and denied every objection from the defense. He ignored the statute of limitations. He slapped two misdemeanors together and called them a felony. He misinstructed the jury. He is corrupt.

This rhetoric was echoed on Newsmax, where attorney Mehek Cooke argued the Facebook comment was a big deal.
“This is a huge deal — I’ve been saying this from the beginning,” he said. “This was a rigged trial from the beginning and now we’re going to see it was rigged all the way to the end. We need more information about this juror to make sure that there is a relationship or if this was just some random troll on the internet.”
“I would tend to believe this is not random. There is a relationship. That judge would not have sent notice to Todd Blanche, former President Trump’s attorney, if there wasn’t more evidence or something that was troubling. This needs to be a mistrial immediately,” he added.
But there was just one problem. It turns out the guy who posted the Facebook comment purporting to be a cousin to a Trump juror was and is an Internet troll.
“Take it easy… I’m a professional sh-tposter,” he wrote in an additional Facebook post obtained by the leftist propaganda outfit MeidasTouch.
“Definition: In Internet culture, sh-tposting or trashposting is the act of using an online forum or social media page to post content that is of ‘aggressively, ironically, and trollishly poor quality,’” he added.
“Sh-tposts are generally intentionally designed to derail discussions or cause the biggest reaction with the least effort. It may even sometimes be
orchestrated as part of a co-ordinated flame war to render a website unusable by its regular visitors,” the post concluded.

For the time being, therefore, it doesn’t appear a mistrial is on the horizon for Trump, meaning his scheduled July 11th sentence date is still on. What remains unclear is whether he’ll receive any jail time.
