During a recent PGA event, top-ranked golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested trying to enter Valhalla Golf Club.
The roads were a hot mess that day because of volunteer had been struck and killed by a shuttle bus.
The charges filed against Scheffler were dropped but not before some fireworks were set off.
Hit and Run
This entire incident is just a mess right now, as one cop claimed that Scheffler injured an officer when he tried to enter the club from the wrong direction.
Scheffler maintained that due to the traffic mess, another officer had told him to drive against traffic and enter the club, which he did.
However, when he came to the entrance, another officer went ballistic on him, with Scheffler eventually being taken into custody and charged.
On Wednesday, Jefferson County Attorney Mike O’Connell dropped the charges, stating, “The evidence we reviewed supports the conclusion that Detective Bryan Gillis was concerned for public safety at the scene when he initiated contact with Mr. Scheffler.
“However, Mr. Scheffler’s actions and the evidence surrounding their exchange and during this misunderstanding do not satisfy the elements of any criminal offenses.”
The officer who was injured was also reprimanded in the case because he did not have his bodycam turned out, which would have cleared up a lot of things that were only seen via a video taken from afar.
Officer Gillis had claimed that he was dragged by Scheffler’s car and injured, but the only thing that could be seen in the video was Gillis reaching into Scheffler’s car, as Scheffler had described in his statement.
Gillis stated, “Mr. Scheffler and I both agree that there will be no ill will over this going forward.
“Instead of giving a negative public reaction, he chose to speak with dignity, humility, and respect. My family and I appreciate that.”
Scheffler’s attorney, Steve Romines, was not so kind, however, holding a brief presser after the charges were dropped.
When a reporter challenged Romines on Scheffler’s statement after the incident, which was more in line with what the officers had stated, Romines went nuclear, stating, “No, here’s what happened…
“He is being interrogated after the most stressful situation of his life. And an officer is actually asking him leading questions and trying to get him to agree with them.
“And that’s why you don’t talk to the police because they are going to try to put words in your mouth! That’s exactly what they did.
“He didn’t have to speak, but again, he asked to talk to the officer. He wanted to explain to him what happened.
“However, they are trying to get him to confess to something that he didn’t do, and the video evidence shows he didn’t do it.”
From what I have seen, the officer definitely got a little creative in what he said happened, but when all is said and done, the outcome is what it should have been.
Life lessons learned for all involved, and now you can cue the outrage from the left about white privilege and how this courtesy would have never happened if Scheffler was a minority.
