Sen. John Fetterman (D-PA) and his wife Giselle were briefly hospitalized after being involved in a car crash Sunday morning in Maryland.
Fetterman was driving a Chevrolet Traverse when he rear-ended a Chevrolet Imapala on I-70 between Pennsylvania and West Virginia, according to police reports.
The couple was taken to War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs, West Virginia where the senator was treated for a bruised shoulder.
They were then released, and returned to Braddock, Pennsylvania where they live.
Happy to be home
“They are doing well and happy to be back in Braddock,” a spokesperson for the senator said.
The driver of the Impala was also taken to the hospital, and their condition is not known.
Fetterman famously had a stroke just months before winning election to the Senate in 2022. He later entered treatment for depression voluntarily and has spoken about his experience with mental health since that time.
No mention of the couple’s two children was given in news or police reports, so they probably weren’t in the car when the accident occurred.
Fetterman’s wife later revealed on X that it was the couple’s wedding anniversary, telling him in a comment that he “got an F” this year.
Police investigating
Police said they are still actively investigating the accident, but no citations have been issued so far.
Fetterman has made headlines in recent months for his staunch support for Israel after it was attacked by Hamas on October 7.
He has broken with progressives within his party who have wanted to pressure Israel to stop its attacks on Hamas in Gaza even after 1,200 of its citizens were killed in the brazen attack in October.
Fetterman has even gone so far as to tell Bill Maher he is no longer a progressive because of the progressives’ anti-Israel stance.
He maintains that Israel has the right to retaliate against Hamas and that the number of civilians casualties in Gaza may be either purposely overestimated by the health ministry there or exacerbated by Hamas practices of using civilians as human shields.
