Jon Stewart has credited former President Donald Trump with giving America a “gift” by “exposing” political and corporate corruption.
Stewart delved into Trump, the election, and the state of democracy on his new podcast, Daily Mail highlighted.
He shared these unexpected thoughts with chief Washington correspondent for the New Yorker magazine Jane Mayer and President of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington Noah Bookbinder.
Stewart asserted that Trump’s conviction and ongoing trials have uncovered “a reality of crony capitalism, a reality of transactional corruption that is the heartbeat of corporate and political America.”
He argued on The Weekly Show that Trump’s actions have laid bare the flaws and shady deals endemic to U.S. politics and business.
“In some ways, he is doing us a service,” Stewart remarked, likening Trump to a “white hat hacker” who reveals system vulnerabilities.
Stewart queried, “Is he exposing a reality?”
“I’m not saying he’s not pushing the limit of it. I’m not saying he’s not exploiting it, but isn’t he exposing at some level a reality of crony capitalism, a reality of transactional corruption that is the heartbeat of corporate and political America?”
Mayer responded by acknowledging the growing influence of money in politics, noting that while it corrupts the government, it doesn’t tell the whole story.
“There are incredible numbers of people in Washington who are really dedicated to doing the right thing for the right reasons, both Republicans and Democrats,” she said.
Stewart countered that despite the presence of dedicated public servants, Trump has highlighted systemic “vulnerabilities.”
“He’s identifying though a dissatisfaction and two things can be true,” Stewart observed.
“One is there are a lot of really good, dedicated policy people and good-hearted with great integrity people working in Washington every day to make the country work better.”
“And number two is the system is so removed from the needs of its people and so insulated and isolated within the Beltway and within that very peculiar system within the Beltway, that it can’t actually accomplish the goal even those good-hearted people of integrity want it to.”
Stewart concluded with a call to “reverse engineer” the system in light of the issues Trump has exposed.
“Now he’s not doing it for our benefit, he’s doing it to exploit it,” the host explained.
“But what I’m saying is, what if we take the information that he’s delivering us which is, here are the vulnerabilities in your system that I can exploit, can’t we reverse engineer that?”
Stewart made headlines earlier this year for a rant about Trump’s civil real-estate case which overvalued his properties.
The comedian said the crimes were “not victimless,” despite himself benefiting from a similar inflation when it came to his own home.
Stewart was swiftly blasted on X after it was revealed he overvalued his own New York City home by 829 percent, Resist the Mainstream reported.
“People who live in overvalued glass houses shouldn’t throw stones, Jon,” TPUSA founder Charlie Kirk quipped.
