Ukraine has dealt unprecedented damage to Vladimir Putin‘s forces as Russia lost nearly 1,300 troops and a significant amount of war equipment in a single day.
Knewz.com has learned that Ukraine also launched a significant airstrike within 24 hours of being permitted to attack Russian territory using weapons supplied by Western allies.
The Ministry of Defense in Ukraine wrote in a recent statement that Volodymyr Zelensky‘s forces claimed the lives of 1,290 Russian soldiers in the past 24 hours, recording the highest number of monthly Russian casualties and artillery losses.
The Ministry reported on X, formerly known as Twitter, that Russia lost 15 tanks, 18 armored combat vehicles, 65 artillery units, 69 vehicles and fuel tanks, 12 units of “special equipment,” and 27 drones.
Writing about the success of the latest strikes, the Ministry quoted the Greek philosopher Socrates in one of its posts on X: “When you want success as badly as you want the air, then you will get it. There is no other secret of success.”
The British Ministry of Defense commented on the unprecedented loss of personnel on the Russian side, saying that the “elevated casualty rate is highly likely a reflection of Russia’s ongoing attritional offensive which is being conducted across a wide front.”

It is worth noting that Russia has been carrying out a renewed assault on the Kharkiv front and reportedly experiencing significant losses.
“It is highly likely that most Russian forces receive only limited training, and they are unable to carry out complex offensive operations. As a result, Russia employs small-scale but costly wave attacks in an effort to weaken Ukrainian defenses,” the statement from the British Defense Ministry added.
“Russia continues to recruit additional forces to sustain this approach. However, the need to continuously replenish front line personnel will almost certainly continue to limit Russia’s ability to generate higher capability units.”
Russia has lost a total of 512,420 soldiers since the beginning of the Ukraine war, per the statistics shared by the Ukrainian Defense Ministry.

In another statement, Ukraine claimed to have achieved the record for the highest number of Russian artillery systems destroyed in May 2024.
“1160 Russian artillery systems were destroyed in May. It’s the biggest number of artillery losses in two years of the war. And Ukrainian warriors continue to transform Russian weapons into scrap metal,” the statement read.
Ukraine has reportedly been carrying out relentless strikes on Russian soil ever since the nation was given permission from Washington, London, Paris, and Berlin to carry out attacks on Putin’s territory using weapons supplied by its allies.
According to The Telegraph, the United States has permitted “Kyiv to hit targets within Russia only if they pose an immediate threat to Ukrainian forces.”
Less than 24 hours after receiving the green light, Ukraine launched missile strikes targeting artillery systems, troop concentrations, and at least one major bridge in Russia during the early hours of Sunday, June 2.

Ukrainian military information channels on Telegram have shared photos of the aftermath of the successful Ukrainian strike. One of the images shows a Russian air defense system unit up in flames in Belgorod.
The damaged air defense system in Belgorod was equipped with S-300/400 surface-to-air missiles, per The Telegraph.
The missiles are believed to have been fired from the track-mounted M270 rocket launcher and the wheel-mounted HIMARS rocket launcher, both of which are U.S.-made pieces of war machinery.
“Russian major media confirmed Ukrainian forces used multiple salvoes of 122mm M42 rockets, some armed with cluster munitions, in the cross-border strikes,” the news outlet Kyiv Post reported, adding that Kremlin-controlled information platforms have alleged that the strikes targeted civilian homes and businesses.
It is worth noting that Putin had threatened “serious consequences” if the Western bloc allowed Ukraine to use its weapons to strike targets on Russian soil.

“Representatives of countries that are NATO members, particularly in Europe, should be aware of what they are playing with. They should keep in mind that theirs are small and densely populated countries,” the Russian President had said during his recent Uzbekistan visit, per The Presidency of Russia.
Sergei Ryabkov, the deputy foreign minister of Russia, reminded the West of Putin’s warning in the light of the recent developments.
“I urge these figures [in the US] … to spend some of their time, which they apparently spend on some kind of video games, judging by the lightness of their approach, on studying what was said in detail by Putin,” Ryabkov said, via The Telegraph.
“I would like to warn American leaders against miscalculations that could have fatal consequences. For unknown reasons, they underestimate the seriousness of the rebuff they may receive.”
