A man in Costa Rica fatally shot his neighbor after a heated argument between the two.
Knewz.com has learned that the incident occurred around 7 a.m. local time on Monday, June 3, at the Rio Palma condominium in Guachipelin, Escazu.
The shooter, identified as 53-year-old Eduardo Ramírez Zamora, has been arrested after the incident.
The San José Criminal Court has placed him under three months of preventive detention as the authorities investigate the matter, the Public Ministry said via La Nacion.
The fatal showdown between Zamora and his neighbor, Otoniel Orozco Mendoza, was captured by a security camera.
The minute-long terrifying footage of the incident showed Zamora loading his 9mm handgun and concealing it under his shirt before he went to confront Mendoza and his wife. Locals have reported that the neighbors have been locking horns for a few years.
On the fateful day, the argument between the two couples started over a shared water valve, according to the New York Post.

In the video clip from the security camera, Zamora’s wife can be seen walking out of her garage past a pickup truck when the couple next door yells at her from their doorway. She stops and shouts back at the Mendozas, and at this point, Zamora walks into the frame.
Agitated, Mendoza and his wife can be seen walking out into the front yard and confronting the couple. The tensions between the two parties quickly escalated as Mendoza threw several punches at Zamora and hit him in the head.
Suddenly, Zamora drew back, produced his handgun from underneath his shirt, and rapidly fired multiple shots at Mendoza before his wife stopped him and pulled him away.
The victim fell over as his wife helplessly screamed. The New York Post wrote that Zamora shot his neighbor over nine times.
One of the locals who witnessed the shooting spoke to the Costa Rican news outlet The Tico Times, saying: “We heard a loud argument outside; as we looked out, we could see where the neighbor was shooting the other neighbor, who unfortunately passed away. Once he was lying on the ground, the other neighbor continued to shoot him without fear.”

Another resident of the Rio Palma condominium said that the neighbors tried to help Mendoza by contacting emergency services. However, it was already too late by then.
“We all came out of our houses. We ran to help Otto and called 9-1-1. It was very surprising; nobody imagined that this problem would end up like this. Nobody knew that he had a firearm,” the Rio Palma resident said, adding that many of the neighbors “approached them and asked them to get along for their own sake and the good of all the neighbors.”
The locals also commented on the sour relationship between the two families.
“The neighbor who caused the death of Mr. Otto already had many things against him for years. He bothered him every time he (Otto) went out, bothered his children and wife, and made derogatory comments regarding Mr. Otto’s nationality. He even questioned how it was possible that a Nicaraguan could live in a place like this.”

Andrés Durán, Zamora’s lawyer, told La Nacion that Zamora and Mendoza had faced each other in court on at least six different occasions, and elaborated on one of the ongoing cases between the two.
“The deceased built a room without municipal or condominium authorization, which caused cracks in my client’s walls. They were very annoying… In fact, they hit on the walls so that the other couldn’t sleep,” Durán told the outlet.
It is worth noting that the authorities searched Zamora’s home after the incident, and found an AR-15 assault rifle. However, Durán pointed out that “his client had a carry permit and weapons with their respective permits for hobby and personal defense.”
Authorities have currently confiscated all of Zamora’s weapon permits, and aim to revoke them.
