The prosecution rested in Hunter Biden’s criminal trial Friday, Breitbart reported. The defense will likely begin its arguments next week as Biden faces three counts connected to his unlawful purchase and disposal of a firearm.
Hunter Biden’s defense team will have to rebut some strong testimony from several witnesses. Some of them included FBI agents and experts as well as the gun store clerk Gordon Cleveland and the man who found the gun after it was disposed of, 80-year-old Edward Banner.
President Joe Biden’s son was accused of lying on the application when purchasing a firearm in 2018. At the time, Hunter Biden was addicted to crack but denied drug use in a direct question about it on the form.
Experts believe the most damaging witness against Hunter Biden was Hallie Biden. She is not only his ex-girlfriend but also the widow of his deceased brother, Beau Biden.
Star Witness for the Prosecution
Hallie Biden made a compelling witness for the prosecution in her testimony. She is the one who threw the gun into a dumpster because she “panicked” after finding the weapon in Hunter Biden’s truck, The Hill reported.
She was afraid one of her children might find it, so she thought it best to dispose of it. Hallie Biden wrapped it up in a shopping bag and tossed it into the dumpster outside of a grocery store where Banner would find it.
“I was afraid to touch it. I didn’t know if it was loaded,” she claimed.
Hallie Biden was also acutely aware that Hunter Biden was a drug user at the time he purchased the gun, which is the crux of the case. In fact, Hunter Biden was the one who introduced her to crack cocaine, which she had never used before getting together with him.
“It was a terrible experience that I went through, and I’m embarrassed and ashamed, and I regret that period of my life,” Hallie Biden said. She also described how Hunter Biden alternated between being “agitated or high-strung, but at other times, functioning as well” when he smoked crack, underscoring the history the pair had.
Facing the Consequences
Hunter Biden’s only defense is that he didn’t consider himself an addict or drug user at the time because he had just come out of rehab when he filled out the application. After all, he was living with a sober companion and would “surely believe he was not a present tense user or addict.”
Still, Hunter Biden could find himself finally serving time for the crime if the jury doesn’t believe his flimsy defense. In all, he could face $750,000 in fines and up to 25 years in prison.
Even if he’s not convicted, Hunter Biden will endure another trial in California, this time for tax evasion. He’s accused of failing to pay taxes in the amount of $1.4 million and of filing false returns.
It’s possible that this trial begins in September, which is just two months before the election which will decide whether Joe Biden serves another term as president. Between his son’s alleged gun crime, drugs, and tax evasion, Joe Biden could have a hard time getting voters to trust him.
Hunter Biden has done many sleazy and possibly illegal things that he’s never been held to account for in the past. This time, he just might get what’s been a long time coming.
