Joe Biden’s Presidency has led to surging crime rates in cities and towns across the country.
Some law-abiding citizens are starting to take matters into their own hands.
And one Florida man latched on to a carjacker’s leg and refused to let go until the police arrived.
Crime has become a major problem in Joe Biden’s America.
Of all the crimes taking place, motor vehicle theft has been on the rise since the Black Lives Matter riots that took place during the summer of 2020.
According to the Council on Criminal Justice, there were 29% more reported motor vehicle thefts in 2023 than in 2022.
“Compared to the same period in 2022, motor vehicle thefts increased by 39% in the first half of 2023 and by 21% in the second half of 2023,” the Council reported.
And the number is even higher for carjacking.
“Carjacking is theft or attempted theft of a motor vehicle by force or threat,” the Council wrote. “Across the sample, the carjacking rate was 93% higher in 2023 compared to 2019.”
With crime on the rise, citizens are starting to take matters into their own hands.
And that is exactly what happened recently in Jacksonville, Florida, when 36-year-old Marvette Perry attempted to steal a car from an elderly couple at a gas station.
The 74-year-old male victim pulled into an Exxon station to use the bathroom while his wife waited in the car.
As soon as he opened the door, Perry pushed him aside and jumped in the driver’s seat.
Since his wife was still in the car, the old man decided to latch on to the criminal’s leg and hold on for dear life until the police arrived.
“When officers arrived, they located one of the victims holding onto Marvette Perry, 36, of Jacksonville by the leg, attempting to keep her from fleeing in the vehicle,” First Coast News reported.
A Good Samaritan who also carries a firearm held Perry at gunpoint to “ensure the safety of those involved.”
“The victim advised police he believed Perry would steal the vehicle with his wife sitting in the passenger seat, so he held onto Perry’s leg until officers arrived,” First Coast News reported. “According to Perry’s arrest report, investigators found her vehicle parked at a nearby gas pump and the keys in her possession when she was placed under arrest.”
Perry told the police that she had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and jumped into the car because she was feeling stressed.
She was charged with robbery carjacking without a firearm or weapon, burglary with assault or battery, battery on a person 65 years of age or older and resisting an officer without violence.
